While the focus of associations and Basketball Victoria continues to be on the return of grassroots and domestic basketball for the wider Victorian community, there is a demand for a level of junior representative basketball.
If circumstances relating to COVID-19 restrictions improve and restriction levels ease to allow for the reopening of stadiums and the recommencement of competition basketball.
The VJBL is looking at options for geographically based exhibition games for teams entered in the current VJBL Championship season for U12s to Under 18’s to participate before the start of the 2020/21 VJBL season, if safe to do so. Should these games be possible, Basketball Victoria will not be charging associations for the management and fixturing of games, however teams will still be required to pay a team-sheet fee on the day to cover referees and association costs.
Consideration will be given to the length of time participants have been absent from the game and a period of time to allow athletes to train before a return to competitive play. The health, safety and well-being of the community and our players is at the forefront of all decisions as we look to provide opportunities to play.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when information arises.
