The Melbourne Utd. VJBL Girls Got Game overall winners were announced at a luncheon last week.
A fantastic day was had at Sofia’s restaurant East Burwood last Thursday as 100 eager players, coaches and Melb Utd. VJBL staff came together for the Overall Girls Got Game award luncheon.
The luncheon was an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate girls in basketball.
Our guest speakers Chantella Perera (Kilsyth SEABL) and Lauren Jackson (Melbourne Boomers WNBL) spent time with all the Girls Got Game weekly winners from throughout the year to share their insights into what it takes to the reach the WNBL and beyond. They gave the crowd a bit of an insight into how they started basketball from starting as domestic juniors through to a high level of competition.
The parents, association staff, friends and siblings who attended enjoyed a sumptuous lunch and the children especially went crazy over the pizza and pasta on their menu while the winners were announced.
The final winners as selected by the GGG sub committee:
1st – Jessica McConchie from Casey
2nd – Emma Portelli from Bacchus Marsh
3rd – Emily Attard from Melton
All these girls have put in the time to develop their basketball as well as being great role models for their association while participating in various areas including coaching, skill development for younger players and being available to help out where required.
