RETURNING to Western Australia for 2020 and 2021, the Australian Under-16 Junior Championships is heading back to Warwick!
Warwick Stadium recently hosted the Australian Under-16 Junior Championships in 2017, with our Victoria Metropolitan Women taking the gold in a thrilling all-Victorian clash against Victoria Country.
The Victoria Metropolitan Men won the bronze medal to round off an extremely successful week in Perth with plenty more to come in 2020 and 2021.
The championships were extremely well received and the Warwick basketball community is excited to once again showcase Perth and the region as a whole.
The Australian Under-16 Championships features teams from across the country battling it out for the Under-16 titles – with both currently held by Victoria Metropolitan following an extremely successful tournament week in Darwin this past July.

Basketball Australia Executive General Manager Basketball Paul Maley said Basketball Australia is equally thrilled to have the Under-16 championships returning to Warwick Stadium.
In addition to a great display of athleticism, the local community will have the added benefit of a major boost to local tourism.
“Warwick Senators Basketball Club (formerly Stirling Senators) did an outstanding job hosting the event in 2017 and we know they will only build on that for 2020/21,” Maley said. “Their stadium and facilities are up there with the best in country which is vital for our emerging junior athletes.
“The Australian Junior Championships have been estimated to bring up to 15,000 bed nights and $4million in spending to a local area across the course of the tournament.”
